Need a health boost? Lemongrass Ginger tea is your answer..

Lemongrass ginger tea does more than just making you feel good from within. And isn’t that exactly what we need during the January month. Here in South Africa we are enjoying prime time summer, whilst you folks on the other side of the world are freezing in winter. But it actually doesn’t matter where you stay, as our lemongrass Ginger blend is not only a beautiful tea to drink hot, but also lovely as an iced tea.

It’s a tea close to my heart, as it’s currently the only tea in our assortment sourced from my birth country. We partnered with Amba Estate which is a beautiful small-scale organic tea estate in Ella, Sri-Lanka. During our travels we found the idyllic estate by surprise, but we immediately fell in love.

Not only does Amba focus on natural farming practices and truly unique, artisanal teas. They also pay their employees a fair and equal salary, including a share in profits. Plus these valued workers benefit from long-term employment and ongoing training. Doesn’t that just sound amazing?

So why is lemongrass such a healthy drink I hear you think..?

Ginger and lemongrass are two of the best food ingredients for digestion aid and have anti-inflammatory properties. Plus may also have the potential to lower  risk of chronic diseases, such as soothe stomach, but they have many more health benefits:

  • Relieving anxiety. Many people find sipping hot tea to be relaxing, but lemongrass tea may offer further anxiety-reducing properties
  • Lowering cholesterol
  • Preventing infection
  • Relieving pain
  • Boosting red blood cell levels
  • Full of antioxidants
  • Regulates High Blood Pressure
  • Boosts Metabolism and Burns Fat
  • For Naturally Great Skin and Hair
  • Heals Cold and Flu
  • Relieves menstrual pain

We all know how to brew a nice cup of herbal tea, so let me now share our secret how to brew the best lemongrass ginger iced tea.

  • 2 cups roughly chopped lemongrass stalks
  • Lime wheels, lemongrass stalks for garnish (optional)
  • Spice it up with other herbs like; ginger root, chamomile flower buds, fresh mint (green or white tea)
  • Add the the water (100 celcius) to a pot with the tea leaves
  • Steep the herbs in the water for 4 – 10 min.
  • Strain the tea
  • Add sweetener of your choice (I never add a sweetener as I’m not a sweet tooth)
  • Let it cool. Add Fresh lemon.
  • Lime wheels, lemongrass stalks for garnish (optional)
  • Serve with ice during the hot summer days and enjoy.
